Kolkata: The Bidhannagar traffic police will be continuing the ongoing trial run of the newly constructed Bailey bridge, connecting Salt Lake AA Block and VIP Road near Dakshindari, for few more days before it is finally thrown open to round-way traffic.
A final inspection will be conducted in a few days' time, a senior traffic police officer said. The trial run is being conducted daily from 9 am to 9 pm. "The idea is to keep the bridge open for both-way traffic movement for 24 hours.
"It is being assessed which type of vehicles could be allowed," said an officer.
The police are proposing to install height bars to prevent heavy vehicles. There needs to be 24 traffic surveillance at the spot where airport-bound vehicles from Salt Lake cross VIP Road's city-bound flank in parallel through the bridge, taking the median cut-out to turn right to get on to the airport-bound flank, an officer said.
The canal-side road on the Salt Lake-end at AA Block is not wide enough to take large vehicles entering from the VIP Road.
