Kolkata: Tensions flared in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday following separate attacks on a BJP office in Minakhan and a party worker's residence in Barasat. The violence left at least six injured and several vehicles damaged. The BJP has blamed the Trinamool Congress for both incidents.
In Minakhan's Bamanpukur, BJP Basirhat district president Sukalyan Baiddya alleged that TMC supporters armed with rods and sticks stormed a party meeting, assaulting workers and vandalizing the office. Six people were reportedly injured.
Denying the charges, TMC's Saifuddin Islam claimed: "BJP brought in outsiders who created unrest. Local residents protested; our workers were not involved."
In Barasat, BJP mandal president Anirban Biswas alleged that TMC supporters on motorbikes pelted his house with stones and damaged his SUV. Biswas has filed an FIR with the Barasat District Police.
