Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has welcomed the Supreme Court order on electoral roll revision under court monitored body and described it a huge victory for the people of Bengal.
In his X handle, he wrote: “Today marks a historic demolition of @ECISVEEP’s bloated arrogance. The CEC once strutted around like an untouchable overlord, convinced his word was final. That delusion has been shattered into oblivion.”
He further wrote: “Roll observers had been stonewalling and parking legitimate claims, all the while plotting to erase legitimate voters in a bid to rig the game for their political masters. But the Supreme Court just delivered the knockout punch. All claims, objections, logical discrepancy cases will now be handled by impartial judicial officers appointed by the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.”
He remarked this is a blow to the Election Commission of India that ditched its sacred constitutional duty and morphed into a partisan hit-squad, serving the BJP’s vested interests. They have been dragged back to reality and reminded that the sovereign power of the people crushes the petty ambitions of those in power.
Trinamul Congress has pointed out repeatedly how the genuine voters have been deleted from the voter’s list by the ECI.
Chief Minister, herself a lawyer, appeared before the Supreme Court and pleaded how the ECI is helping the BJP by manipulating the electoral roll. She had also pointed out that the ECI was giving instructions on WhatsApp to shrug its responsibilities. She had said that the special observers had overruled the decision of the EROs and AEROs.
Today the Supreme Court has given a landmark judgement giving the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court the power to select judicial officers in the rank of district judge and additional district judge to hear the cases with logical discrepancies.
