Kolkata: A senior employee of New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) might have fallen prey to online CEO fraud.
The complaint was submitted from NKDA's office address under the jurisdiction of Techno City police station. A case was lodged at BDN cyber crime police station.
The administrative officer (estate management) of the NKDA lodged a complaint with police alleging that the superintending architect of NKDA had received WhatsApp messages, whose sender posed as the NKDA chairman. The messages were sent from a mobile number carrying a foreign code, the complainant alleged. The sender had allegedly contacted the employee and misled him to obtain information through misrepresentation, prompting filing of a cybercrime case, police said.
Police said the sender used the profile photo and identity of the chairman, NKDA, to initiate communications. tnn
