• Help deleted voters get names back via Form 6, BLOs told

  • Kolkata: With the voters' list being updated on the BLO App 24 hours before the final electoral roll is published on Saturday, most BLOs are aware of the names in their neighbourhoods that will not figure on the list. Electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) have reportedly instructed BLOs to help such genuine voters submit Form 6 to get their names back in the roll in time for the assembly elections.

The voter enrolment can continue till the last date of nomination.

After the BLO App was disabled once the SIR hearings ended on Feb 14, it was re-activated on Wednesday. On the app, a check of the electoral list revealed the deleted names. BLOs confirmed that they had been told by their supervisors or AEROs to collect documents from the "deleted" voters and help them re-enrol by submitting Form 6. "On the app, the list of electors in my area showed the names of about 20 people missing. My supervisor asked me to help deleted voters fill Form 6 online and upload their documents. I have their documents, I will call them up to fill the forms," said a BLO in Shyampukur.

Some BLOs said they would "break the news" after the final list was published. "The names of about 50 voters in my area have been struck off but I am waiting for the list to come out or I may face a backlash from those voters," said a BLO in south Kolkata. He added he had the deleted voters' documents ready. "I will approach them for Form 6 applications from Saturday after the final list is out," he said.

Some other BLOs questioned the logic behind the Form 6 application, as these voters would face the same document hurdles for which their names were struck off. "The electors whose names were deleted could not produce the EC-specified documents. They will still have those same documents while applying for Form 6. I am unsure if they can get their names back on the electoral roll," said a BLO in Howrah.
