Kolkata: Days after Kolkata Police transferred the officer in-charge of Jadavpur Police Station for alleged misconduct and harassment of a civic volunteer, the Lalbazar top brass removed a sub-inspector from his duties at the same police station for allegedly being involved in the incident and acting on behalf of the OC.
A third cop is also under the scanner, with senior officers at Lalbazar saying that everyone whose name is mentioned in the complaint filed by the survivor will be questioned and examined by the Internal Complaints Committee of Kolkata Police.
Joint commissioner (Headquarters) Miraj Khalid transferred the SI to the reserve force. The main accused, the OC, was already transferred to the Security Control Organisation (SCO), and a departmental investigation was initiated against him.
A Lalbazar source revealed that the incident took place outside the police station complex in the last week of Feb. The SI reportedly was present at the spot at the time of the incident. He is also accused of attempting to cover up the matter and trying to dissuade the victim from filing a complaint, the civic volunteer detailed to her seniors.
It is alleged that, under the pretext of going on a night round, the female civic volunteer was forcibly made to get into the police vehicle. Subsequently, the senior officers pressured the female civic volunteer to consume alcohol, but she refused. Following this, they reportedly harassed her.
