Malda: A Malda man was beaten to death by locals after his teenage son shot a 10-year-old dead and injured two others on Wednesday night. Three have been arrested in the matter.
According to sources, a 17-year-old Manikchak resident was involved in a brawl on Holi afternoon with several youths in the village of Mathurapur Kaharpara. During the quarrel, the boy sped home on his two-wheeler, injuring some bystanders, while others gave chase. The group reached his home, but his father Samir Dasgupta stopped them at the door.
Samir's son allegedly took his licensed gun in the midst of this and fired several rounds at the crowd. Arun Mandal, Ghusu Rajak, and 10-year-old Samar Rajak were injured in the accident. The 10-year-old later died in the hospital. Following the firing, villagers dragged Samir out and beat him up. Police reached the spot to rescue Samir, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Malda SP Abhijit Banerjee said, "Two separate cases were lodged and three persons have been arrested so far. The firearm was seized, and the probe is on."
