  • Kolkata: Health remains the key to ensuring that women continue to play an important role in various activities and contribute more, said experts on International Women's Day on Sunday. The day was celebrated across Kolkata through a series of events that stressed the importance of intentional support, mentoring and advocacy for women, this year's theme for the day.

Manipal Hospitals Kolkata honoured women leaders and courageous survivors who overcame health challenges to achieve their goals. The event brought together distinguished women from diverse fields, including education, defence, journalism and healthcare, creating a platform to recognise achievements and personal journeys.

Charnock Hospitals, in collaboration with Endurance Sports, hosted ‘Run Bhumi', a marathon dedicated to the resilience, health, and empowerment of women. The event kicked off near NKDA Football Stadium. "Every woman running today plays multiple roles: mother, professional, caregiver, and dreamer. By providing this platform, we wanted to remind them to prioritise their health. The participation was huge, and it showed that if women are supported, the entire society moves ahead," said a Charnock official.

Desun Hospital launched Kolkata's first dedicated Parental Skills Clinic, an initiative designed to support expecting couples and new parents with medical guidance, emotional support, and practical caregiving knowledge. The initiative is aimed at guiding families through pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood, particularly addressing the needs of nuclear families.

Techno India DAMA Hospital organised a discussion on ‘Women's Health & Contribution' with speakers from various walks of life. A Vivah Mukti Rath campaign concluded on the day after traversing 27,055 km across 2,567 villages in Bengal and sensitising over 10 lakh people against child marriage. Launched last month by Just Rights for Children, India's largest child rights NGO network including 14 in Bengal, as part of the 100-Day Intensive Campaign by the central and state govts, the mobile awareness vehicle covered 827 events.
