Kolkata: An FIR was lodged at Hastings Police Station on Saturday based on a written complaint filed by the Victoria Memorial Hall (VMH) administration after a threat posted on their Facebook page last Friday. The post coincided with an email threat warning of violence and an explosion at the heritage monument, prompting an investigation by Kolkata Police. TOI reported how Kolkata Police carried out an extensive search of the Victoria Memorial premises last Friday after evacuating the property but found nothing alarming.
According to the complaint, a threatening message was received on March 5 at 8.32 pm on an official email account. The email, sent from victomem@gamil.com, was allegedly linked in the complaint to an individual identified as Vivek Saykar, using the address viveck1999@gmail.com. The message said: "This is the end of 2025, then I will crush, stab, shoot and detonate in Victoria Memorial at a building museum."
The complainant, Dibakar Karmakar, security in-charge of VMH, told cops a similar threat was also posted on the VMH Facebook page.
Investigators are examining the origin of the email and the social media post, including technical details and electronic trails.
