• Cricket fans in USA's Houston celebrate India's cup win

  • KOLKATA: Scores of Indian fans, many of them from Kolkata and other parts of Bengal, watched and then celebrated India’s historic T20 World Cup win in Houston, US, on super Sunday.

    They had all woken up early on Sunday morning and assembled at cricket screening parties all over the Greater Houston area. After the game, there was a celebration party at Houston Durga Bari.

    "We played and danced to patriotic songs like Vande Mataram, Chak De India, Sab Se Aagey Hongey Hindusthani. And even the KKR song – Korbo Lorbo Jitbo Re," recounted Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, a technology executive in Energy from Entally, Kolkata, revelling in pride over India's sterling show in the tournament.

    Nirmalya Roy, an IT professional, talked about repeating history at Durgabari, where they had celebrated the ODI World Cup victory in 2011 and the T20 Wother World Cup win two years ago.

    Dhruba Ghose, a naval architect and a leader in the American shipping industry from Lake Gardens in Kolkata, said he is a big sports fan and, in addition to US sports, loves following cricket, and every tournament India plays.

    Rajiv Saha, the man at the DJ console, is an engineer by profession and loves bringing the community to its feet.

    Jit Biswas, a software leader, talked about getting together and watching sports like the old days at his home.

    Abhijit Bhattacharya, a financial software expert, talked about the high enthusiasm among NRI fans about India and how they religiously follow the game.

    "In short, half a world away, we live and breathe the Indian team, and always support the Men In Blue," he gushed.
