  • Kolkata: BJP netas on Tuesday slammed Trinamool for "trampling the Constitution" and alleged that the party is trying to destroy Bengal. Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini compared the TMC govt with the "atrocious British Raj."

"The British had tortured the people here, and the govt in Bengal today reminds us of those days. The communists first destroyed the state, but Mamata didi turned out to be even worse," Saini said during the BJP's ‘Parivartan Yatra' in South 24 Parganas. He alleged that the state govt has deprived people of basic facilities and that voters have made up their mind to uproot TMC.

Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said that TMC statements made from the dharna manch aimed to divide the state on communal lines. "This will create unrest and foment tension. Desperation has gripped Trinamool," Bhattacharya said.

The party also attacked Trinamool for allegedly undermining tribals and Dalits. Rahul Sinha, who was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Monday, said: "The way the state govt insulted the President is unprecedented. It was an insult to the entire tribal community. We will reach every household with that message."

Tripura CM Manik Saha, attending the yatra in Bardhaman Dakshin on Tuesday, dismissed concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). "Some 50-55 lakh people have been removed during the SIR. Trinamool feels troubled as they are clueless. There will be SIR, elections will be held, and BJP will form the govt here," Saha said.
