Kolkata: Leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari met governor R N Ravi for over 30 minutes on Friday and alleged that democratic institutions in the state were under duress. He also sought action against chief secretary Nandini Chakravorty and acting DGP Peeyush Pandey over the state's alleged negligence in ensuring the safety and security of President Droupadi Murmu during her visit here.
"I will not comment on the governor's response, but whatever has happened to President Murmu is alarming to people across the country. The state has even failed to maintain protocol for the President. Civic volunteers were deployed to ensure her security," Adhikari said, demanding action against those responsible.
"Even the venue had to be changed as it did not receive the necessary permission. I urged the governor to take steps against chief secretary Nandini Chakravorty and acting DGP Peeyush Pandey. It cannot be treated as a closed chapter until action is taken."
