  • Kolkata: Actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty's comment about CM Mamata Banerjee at the Brigade rally ahead of PM Narendra Modi's speech drew sharp criticism from Trinamool which called Chakraborty's comment "outrageous", "irresponsible" and indicative of "toxic misogyny".

Chakraborty said: "(Last time) a hand broke, a leg broke, something else will break this time. You should be prepared for that. There might be speeches from ICU seeking votes from Trinamool."

Calling it an attack on the CM, Trinamool said on X: "Time and again, BJP netas have used cheap, derogatory language against women in public, including Mamata Banerjee, the democratically-elected CM of Bengal. But publicly threatening harm to a sitting CM from a political stage is beyond irresponsible, it is outrageous.

State education minister Bratya Basu said the comment showed the culture of BJP's "migratory netas". "The way he attacked a woman, who was elected by the people of the state again and again, is unacceptable," he said. "This is the real face behind their hollow slogans of ‘Nari Shakti'. Respect for women clearly means nothing to them," Trinamool posted on X.
