  • Kolkata: The EC is planning to arrange for transport for electors aged 85 years and above as well as those with a minimum 40% disability (PwD) to reach polling stations and cast their votes. These arrangements will be provisional for senior citizens and disabled voters who can also choose to vote at home.

Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal said: "We will talk with app-cab aggregators to offer transport facility for those aged 85 years and above, and disabled voters who want to turn up at their respective polling booths. The home voting facility through postal ballot will also be there."

In Bengal, there are over 4 lakh PwD voters while the number of those above 85 years stands at 3.8 lakh. Of these elderly voters, 6,653 are centenarians, as per the Election Commission data. "Also, we have introduced the Saksham module in the ECINET app and this will help them get all polling-related assistance," said an EC official.
