Kolkata: Brace for spells of thundershowers in the next two days, with the Met office predicting enhanced thunderstorm activities between Friday and Saturday in Kolkata along with various other districts across Bengal. Met officials said a combination of moisture incursion, heating and favourable wind pattern will trigger these nor'wester spells.
"We also expect squally wind to sweep across the city between Friday and Saturday," said meteorologist HR Biswas, head at IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
Last Sunday night, a powerful nor'wester hit Kolkata, during which the city logged a rain count of 17.6 mm. During the thundershower, the season's first squall with a wind speed of 72 kmph uprooted several trees. Met officials have not ruled out gusty wind during the predicted nor'wester spells.
Many districts, including neighbouring Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas and other south Bengal districts, are also likely to come under the spell of the thundershower, with gusty wind in the speed ranging between 50 and 70 kmph.
The maximum in Kolkata rose slightly on Thursday to 32.6°, which was still 1.6 notches below normal. The minimum , at 24.7° was a degree above normal. The mercury is set to dip again after the thundershowers.
