  • Kolkata: A seahorse installation titled ‘A Phoenix of the Ocean' was inaugurated at Rabindra Sarobar on Friday. The 15ft-tall installation on a 3ft base, conceptualised by Living Waters Museum, is crafted from discarded plastic and marine debris, and was displayed at the 25th Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai. It has been refurbished by Inner Wheel Club of Central Kolkata and installed with support from KMDA near the entrance next to CRC.

"Over 12 million metric tonnes of plastic enter oceans annually. Rising like a phoenix from this sea of waste, the seahorse symbolises resilience, selflessness, and the urgent need for collective responsibility," said Sukrit Sen of Living Waters Museum.

Inner Wheel Club of Central Kolkata president 2025-26 Vinnyta Agarwala said: "When I first saw the seahorse in Mumbai, I knew it belonged in Kolkata." MLA and mayor-in-council (parks & squares) Debashish Kumar and ward 87 councillor Manisha Bose were present at the inauguration. tnn
