Kolkata: EC's "drastic action" in transferring several IAS and IPS officers after the announcement of polls in Bengal is retaliation for TMC moving an impeachment motion against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has alleged in a petition seeking the transfers be set aside.
The petition was mentioned before the division bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul on Friday and allowed to be filed. "The wholesale dismantling of the state's administrative machinery ahead of elections is not a bona fide exercise of power under Article 324 but a colourable and punitive measure," the petition stated.
