Two B’deshi bros left off voter roll get CAA certs

Kolkata: Two brothers were granted citizenship under CAA even as they remained excluded from the final voter list in yet another case when CAA applicants were struck off the voters roll and got their citizenship certificates later.
The brothers were among 14 others who have received their citizenship certificates recently.
The development came amid concerns across Matua-dominated regions in the Bongaon subdivision over omissions in voter rolls and delays in citizenship processing.
Brothers, Laxman Bhadra and Premchand Bhadra, residents of Nataberia Panchpota under Bagdah police station, have lived in India with their families for around 40 years after migrating from Comilla, Bangladesh. Both applied for citizenship under the CAA at a camp in Thakurnagar last Nov and subsequently received confirmation messages. Recently, they were issued official citizenship certificates.
Despite submitting enumeration forms during the SIR exercise, their names did not feature in the final electoral roll.
Twelve others from Santosh Colony and Gadpukur and Goalbagi areas also received CAA certificates. Of them, Pallab Das and his mother Rebarani Biswas's names have been marked under adjudication while Biplab Biswas's name was deleted.
