  • Kolkata: The city remained sunny on Sunday while the maximum temperature jumped four degrees to touch 27°C. It was still 7.5 notches below normal. The minimum, on the other hand, was 19.7°C. On Saturday, it was 19.2°C.

The low-pressure trough over south Bengal that hung over the region on Saturday, and a western disturbance that stretched from Haryana to Chhattisgarh, moved away, paving the way for clear skies. The mercury will now rise steadily over the next three to four days and inch close to the normal mark, the Met office said.

Another low-pressure trough and thunderstorms are expected by March 27-28. "The first half of the week is going to be mostly sunny and dry. The day temperature will rise slowly," said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay.

The city had received overnight rain triggered by a thunderstorm late on Friday and woke up to an overcast sky and steady drizzles on Saturday. The rain was accompanied by hailstorm in some parts of the city, precipitated by two troughs.
