  • Kolkata/Naxalbari: "Cast one vote each for every SIR injustice," CM Mamata Banerjee urged voters at Naxalbari on Wednesday, while addressing a rally on her assembly poll campaign trail.

Reminding voters of how "women were being targeted by BJP," CM Banerjee assured that she would fight to the end for all deleted voters. To this end, the CM announced that her party's legal counsel will provide free legal aid to all affected citizens.

"How many more votes will you cut? I'll not leave this fight; I will see the end of it," thundered the CM. "They (EC) still haven't put up supplementary lists because they don't have the courage. I have heard that out of 27 lakh names that have been adjudicated, 40% have been removed and 60% have been retained. We are yet to get the list. Those who find themselves removed will get assistance from us. Our lawyers will provide free legal support," the CM declared.

"We will set up camps in every block. I urge all deleted voters to file their applications; we will take care of the rest. Remember, Aadhaar cards and Madhyamik admit cards are now recognised as valid documents," the CM added.

Banerjee claimed BJP "wants everyone to vanish." "They don't want democracy to stay alive. Today, people are being tested on whether they are eligible citizens or not after spending decades here... 220 people have died due to this. Half of those people are Hindus; the others are from minorities, the Matuas, and Rajbangshis. They have targeted specific communities and removed people's names from voter lists," claimed Banerjee.

Banerjee claimed that the manner in which every voter in Bengal briefly found themselves involved in an adjudication case on Tuesday night smells of a "conspiracy." "Yesterday, I suddenly found my name gone from the voter list on the EC website. They claim it was hacked. Is this hacking or some conspiracy?" she asked. Earlier, while addressing another rally at Thakurnagar in Jalpaiguri under the Dabgram-Phulbari constituency, Banerjee said there was a need to unite against conspiracies hatched in Delhi.

"Why is there no logical discrepancy in any other state but Bengal? We have no power in our hands right now; it's almost like President's Rule here. My brothers and sisters should unite now," she said.

Addressing the first of her three rallies for the day at Moynaguri, Banerjee claimed BJP wants to implement NRC following SIR. "They (BJP) have planned to delete the names of voters first. Then they will implement NRC and send people to detention camps. As long as I am here, NRC will not be implemented. There will be no detention camps here," she said.

The CM also warned central forces to act according to their "service mandate" and urged women to come forward to stop "attempts by outside agencies to sabotage" the polling. Wishing the people a happy Ram Navami, the CM stated that Ram did not belong to "BJP alone." "How many temples did you [BJP] break in Kashi? Who broke the Kali temple in Delhi? Don't preach religion to us. In Bengal, every religion thrives peacefully," she said.
