Kolkata: Calcutta HC on Wednesday dismissed a PIL filed by BJP Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya, observing that he has "no authority on whether central or state agency will be accountable to ensure voters' security," reports Subrata Chattoraj. HC clarified that decisions on this will be taken by EC.
The HC division bench directed EC to make adequate safety arrangements and provisions for drinking water as well as other amenities.
EC told Calcutta HC that a new organisation, NBCC, has been appointed to examine whether all polling booths in the state have adequate security and facilities. NBCC was roped in after Mackintosh Burn Limited, a state govt undertaking, withdrew from carrying out infrastructural work for the polls.
