Kolkata: A Calcutta HC advocate was verbally abused, pushed and threatened with a brick after an altercation over a trailer blocking his way escalated. The victim, Sourindranath Bandyopadhyay, was allegedly chased and threatened with death near his residence on Townsend Road in Bhowanipore on Monday. The accused, truck driver and local resident Sanjay Gupta, was identified through CCTV footage and arrested on Tuesday.
On Monday, when Bandyopadhyay was returning home from court, still dressed in his professional attire, he found his way obstructed by a large trailer unloading floor tiles directly in front of his house. With the trailer occupying the narrow road and another vehicle parked nearby, Bandyopadhyay was unable to drive onto his premises.
When he asked Gupta to move the truck to allow him passage, the latter reportedly said he would move it only when the cargo was unloaded. This led to an altercation, with Gupta using foul language. He reportedly pushed the lawyer and tried to snatch his car keys, before picking up a brick and trying to strike him. Locals complained of illegal parking in the lanes of Bhowanipore.
