As part of an ongoing initiative to curb illegal transit, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Eastern Railway intercepted four major cases of unaccounted cash and contraband goods across various divisions. In a high-stakes interception at Burdwan Station, the RPF teams recovered an unaccounted cash amount of Rs 23,68,000 from a suspect.
A joint operation between the RPF Post Howrah South and the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB), which led to the seizure of 1,600 boxes of foreign-origin cigarettes valued at approximately Rs 2,64,000. The seized goods and the accused were subsequently handed over to Customs authorities for further proceedings. Additionally, officials recovered 66 kg of undocumented commercial materials worth Rs 23,600, resulting in a case under the Railways Act, while GST authorities were informed for tax verification.
Following the completion of standard legal protocols, the individual and the currency were handed over to the Income Tax Department, Kolkata, for further investigation. Similarly, at Howrah North, security personnel intercepted another individual carrying Rs 6,13,000 without valid documentation, leading to a case being registered by the Government Railway Police (GRP) Howrah under relevant legal sections.
