  • Two systems brewing over Gangetic South Bengal are anticipated to bring rainfall to the region for the next few days.

    According to the weather scientists, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, while another system, a trough runs from northwest Bihar to Manipur across above the above cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal adjoining Bangladesh and Assam.

    The favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal is tipped to bring enhanced thunderstorm activity over the districts of West Bengal during next two days. The weather department has also issued an ‘orange alert’ of light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind with wind speed reaching 50-60 kilometres per hour over North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Nadia, Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly districts tomorrow. The districts of Nadia, North 24-Parganas, Hooghly are also predicted to have hail storms tomorrow.

    As informed by the Regional Meteorological Centre scientists, after comparatively heavier showers tomorrow, the rainfall is expected to see a reduction for the next two days. On 29-30 March, the RMC issued a forecast of light rain or even thundershowers at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

    On 30 March, districts of Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad are predicted to have light rainfall or thundershowers at one or two places.

    Moderate showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to come back on the 31 March. The weather officials are anticipating gusty wind with speed reaching around 40-50 kmph over various districts of South Bengal. From the first day of April, the weather is anticipated to improve with exceptions at some places. As per the forecast issued, districts of Jhargram, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and South 24-Parganas are likely to get light rainfall with thunder showers on 1 April. From the next day, South Bengal as a whole is anticipated to have dry weather prevailing at least till 3 April.
