  • The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Kolkata Chapter has initiated discussions with Bengal Gas Company Limited (BGCL) to assess the feasibility of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as an alternative fuel for the city’s restaurant sector, amid ongoing challenges around commercial LPG availability.

As part of this engagement, NRAI met with senior BGCL officials, including Anupam Mukhopadhyay, Chief Executive Officer, and Patha Pratim Ghosh, head, corporate affairs & coordination, to better understand current infrastructure readiness and the potential for phased adoption of PNG.

With restaurants in several parts of the city experiencing disruptions in LPG supply and delays in refills, the industry is increasingly evaluating more stable, long-term fuel options to ensure operational continuity.

While PNG infrastructure expansion is currently underway and may not offer immediate access across all locations, the discussion provided clarity on rollout timelines and future possibilities for the sector.
