Focus on toddlers’ growth, city school gets day care

Kolkata: Birla High School Mukundapur organised a panel discussion on the potential during the initial years of childhood recently. It witnessed an overwhelming response. The session, ‘The First 6 Years — Unlocking Potential in the Early Years', was held in Feb.
Headmistress Rakhee Patel announced that the school would begin its day care arrangement from April. This will be available for students in playgroup and nursery.
Principal Jessica Gomes Surana spoke about the formative years in a child's life. She said childcare must focus beyond mere supervision in a world that's fast changing.
The dean academics, Indrani Banerjee, introduced the distinguished panel. It had Ankur Agarwal, early childhood educationist, Chandrima Chakraborty, a paediatric speech language pathologist, Ritam Mondal, paediatric and neonatal consultant. It also featured Chandrika Ramakrishnan, a day care consultant. In the session, the panel focussed on the importance of conscious parenting. It also focussed on shared responsibility. The panel shared that children experience rapid brain development and emotional growth during the initial years.
During these years, communication, proper sleep, discipline and meaningful engagement play a significant role in shaping his or her future. The panel reinforced that the initial six years build the foundation for life. They opined that care provided during this period cannot be neglected. Schools play a crucial role in supporting families. They also create environment, where kids feel safe and encouraged.
