  • The Election Commission of India released the second supplementary list of ‘under consideration’ voters as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal on Friday late night.

Like the first list, the commission did not disclose the number of names that have been disposed of in this phase, nor the number of voters whose names have been deleted.

The first supplementary list was published on 23 March, in which nearly 27 lakh names were included. According to the ECI, around 40 per cent of those names were removed.

The final voter list was originally published on 28 February.

Since then, this is the third list released by the commission, following the first supplementary list on 23 March and the second one on Friday night.

As with the earlier release, the ECI only announced the publication of the list without providing detailed figures.

The list has been published booth-wise in two categories, with a separate list for voters whose names have been deleted.

According to commission sources, voters can check their status by downloading the booth-wise supplementary lists.

Earlier on Friday evening, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) had said that the data received from adjudicating officers till 5 p.m. would be processed before publication.

The commission had indicated that the processing would take around five hours, following which the list was released late at night.

As per official data, 60,06,675 voters were marked as ‘under consideration’ after the publication of the final electoral roll on 28 February.

A total of 705 adjudicating officers are currently handling the disposal of these cases, in line with directions from the Supreme Court, with lists being published in phases.

Before the commencement of the SIR process, the total number of voters in the state stood at 7,66,37,529.

The draft roll had excluded 58,20,899 names, bringing the countdown to 7,08,16,630. A further 5,46,053 names were deleted in the final list published on February 28, taking the total number of deletions to 63,66,952.
