Kanksa (West Burdwan): A 36-year-old voter from Akandara village in Kanksa block allegedly died by suicide on Monday over prolonged mental distress after his name went missing from voter list, according to his family.
According to relatives, Khepa Hazra's name did not figure in the 2002 voter list. Following the SIR, his name was placed under the "adjudication" category. Despite attending the SIR hearing, it was not included in the supplementary list. Family members said Hazra had been under severe psychological stress. On Saturday, he went missing for several hours. He was later found unconscious.
His wife Brinda Hazra said: "On Saturday morning, Khepa went out and consumed poison. When he returned home, I initially thought he was intoxicated, but soon he began frothing at the mouth and his condition worsened. We rushed him to a Durgapur hospital for treatment, but he passed away this morning."
