  • Amid ongoing infighting within the party over party ticket distribution, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a strong message to dissenters during an election rally in Narayangarh.

“Denial of a party ticket should not lead to rebellion. Not getting a ticket does not mean one should oppose the party,” she said.

“Discipline is the main pillar of the party and it cannot be compromised at any cost. The leaders should remain united and stay focused on public service. Those who stay connected with people and work for the people, will be considered for tickets. There is no reason for resentment if they are not selected,” she added.

The Chief Minister’s warning came at a time when internal rifts within the Trinamul Congress continued to surface weeks after the party announced its candidate list.

There were several outgoing legislators, who publicly expressed dissatisfaction causing concern for the top leadership of the party.

Earlier, a couple of days before the party’s national general secretary had taken a firm stance against party dissenters and rebels, warning that those attempting to sabotage official party candidates or engaging in anti-party activities will be shown a “red card” and permanently removed.

He has emphasised that no form of indiscipline will be tolerated, prioritising loyalty to the party and Mamata Banerjee.

The Trinamul Congress has made significant changes to its candidate list for the upcoming elections, dropping 74 sitting MLAs and four ministers.

While not all have reacted, several leaders have openly voiced disappointment, with some even hinting retirement from politics.

Banerjee stressed that no one had been disrespected in the selection process and reiterated the need for unity.

“We may get a ticket once, but not necessarily every time. Our goal should be to stand by the people and work together,” she said.

She also warned that public displays of dissent are not appreciated by voters and would not be tolerated by the party leadership.

The statements indicate that the party leadership is taking a firm stance against infighting as it prepares for the elections, signalling zero tolerance for indiscipline within its ranks.
