Kolkata: A man allegedly attacked three locals with a chopper in Beniapukur on Monday night, when they reportedly objected to the vandalism of parked vehicles. One of the victims received 86 stitches.
Police have identified the accused as Md Aslam, alias Nadeem. Cops said the confrontation began when Tamim Ahmed, 43, a shopkeeper, and Jamil Ahmed, 27, a local, witnessed Nadeem damaging parked two-wheelers. When they attempted to intervene, Nadeem allegedly targeted the duo. According to the victims, Nadeem ran back to his residence and returned with a chopper and began a violent assault.
Ahmed sustained severe injuries. "I was hit with a knife six times," he said. He required multiple stitches. Another victim, Md Gulam Sarwar also sustained cut injuries to his hand while attempting to fend off Nadeem from Tamim and Jamil.
When Jamil's mother tried to intervene, Nadeem reportedly threatened her as well. Police noted that Nadeem also sustained some self-inflicted injuries. Cops have registered a case under Section 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police is also looking into the mental condition of Nadeem.
