Commuters, experts urge state to revive tram services

Kolkata: As public transport in Kolkata faces mounting challenges, commuters, tram enthusiasts and mobility experts have urged the state to revive and expand tram services.
The city's bus network has been steadily shrinking due to rising fuel costs, increased pollution-related duties and a growing number of unroadworthy vehicles. At the same time, autos are dwindling, with drivers grappling with long queues at fuel stations and supply constraints.
"It is high time trams roll out to ease commuters' plight. With minimal investment, we can restart operations and run trams at 10-minute intervals across routes," said Debasish Bhattacharya, president of Calcutta Tram Users Association. tnn
