  • Kolkata: Eastern Railway's Sealdah division on Tuesday commissioned its first Gati Shakti multimodal cargo terminal at Sargachhi station on the Krishnagore-Lalgola section, aimed at streamlining the movement and storage of essential food grains in the Murshidabad region.

The state-of-the-art facility will primarily handle wheat rakes for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and is equipped for bulk storage with protection against environmental factors and infestation.

The terminal can handle two to three rakes a month, with each rake carrying around 2,500 tonne of food grains.

"By integrating rail transport with advanced storage infrastructure, Sealdah division expects to drastically improve supply chain efficiency, reduce transit overheads and bolster food security in the region," an ER official said.
