Kolkata: At least 24 colleges have submitted fresh applications to the University of Calcutta after their campuses were requisitioned for election duty, prompting an urgent review of whether first-semester examinations can be held at those centres or shifted elsewhere. University officials have visited these colleges to assess infrastructure and examine the feasibility of conducting examinations amid poll-related occupation.
Hind Fouz Smriti Mahavidyalaya in Domjur is among the colleges facing major disruption. College principal Supriyo Chakraborty said the college was currently functioning with only one building. The problem is not limited to one institution. Colleges in Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata have also received fresh requisitions for poll occupancy.
Asutosh Ghosh, vice-chancellor, said: "We are in the process of assessing the matter and will take a final decision after speaking with the college principals."
