The city police today summoned two Trinamul Congress councillors Santiranjan Kundu and Sachin Singh of Wards 32 and 36 respectively of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation allegedly in connection with a fracas and illegal assembly in front of the state CEO office on Strand road on Wednesday and Thursday. The duo is also part of the six FIRs that had been filed by the city police.
Earlier, summons to the two councillors were issued by the Hare Street police station seeking their deposition in connection with their alleged roles. Four other persons, against whom FIRs had been filed, were identified as Mohammad Wasim, Maidul, Chandrakant Singh and Md Rizwan Ali.
The charges against the two councillors are that they had spearheaded an illegal assembly in front of the CEO office on 31 March and 1 April and allegedly provoked the crowd to ‘gherao’ which was totally prohibited as it was under BNS Section 163 (prohibition of any unlawful assembly).
