• One seat, two BJP claimants in Maynaguri

  • Jalpaiguri: Two candidates turned up to file nominations for the Maynaguri seat on Saturday, both claiming to be BJP's official pick.

The confusion stemmed from a last-minute candidate swap. The party had initially fielded sitting MLA Kaushik Roy, then replaced him with Dalim Roy following a backlash from workers. Kaushik ignored the change, continued campaigning and filed his nomination as BJP candidate anyway. Dalim arrived shortly after and did the same, brandishing Form A and B signed by the party — but struggled to convince a crowd of supporters. Clarity came when Union minister Sukanta Majumdar held a rally in Jalpaiguri with Dalim by his side. "Kaushik was replaced with Dalim. He has been given the symbol," he said.
