  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the national capital has embraced the values of development, heritage, sensitivity, and compassion and that nothing will be left behind as the city moves on the path of growth.

The CM said that a provision of Rs 62 crore has been made in this year’s budget to strengthen animal health services — an issue neglected for long — by modernising veterinary hospitals and ensuring the availability of state-of-the-art treatment, surgery, and vaccination facilities.

It is noteworthy that the government has decided to set up a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) committee in every district across the city to ensure strict action against animal cruelty.

Stray cattle are also a major challenge in the city, as they are prone to accidents. While on the streets, they often lack proper feed and shelter and are frequently subjected to cruelty.

To address issues related to cows, the state government has initiated the establishment of 10 modern cow shelters, with plans to gradually expand the number to 40.

According to the CM, the goal is simple and clear: to build a Delhi where every life is treated with sensitivity, and compassion becomes the city’s identity.

After coming to power, CM Gupta expressed concern over the issue and reaffirmed her government’s commitment to finding humane solutions to the problem of stray cattle across the national capital and transforming the city’s dairies.

On the presence of stray cows on the city’s roads, Gupta blamed it on years of negligence and false promises by the previous dispensation.

The CM had earlier held a high-level meeting with representatives of authorised dairies, gaushalas, and senior MCD officials from the Animal Husbandry Department to review the issue of stray cattle and the condition of dairy colonies.
