Kolkata: At least a dozen Jadavpur University students were injured and admitted to a private hospital on Saturday night after a clash broke out between two groups after the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union (Fetsu) fest, Sanskriti, ended.
On Saturday, the band Parikrama performed till 11.30 pm. "Towards the end of the show, an argument took place between the organisers and a group of students, who are mainly from the Hills. The argument escalated to a fight outside the open-air theatre. At least 12 students, who are fest organisers, were badly injured. While some sustained injuries to the head, others were hurt in the leg, face and nose," a source said.
An official said: "Students informed the dean of students and the injured were immediately admitted to the hospital."
Recently, a resident of Selimpur had written to the VC about indiscriminate use of loudspeakers during the fest, which was affecting normal life of people in the neighbourhood. Teachers pointed out that often the fest goes on till late at night. "By that time, a section of students are intoxicated, which raises concerns about untoward incidents happening on the campus," a source said.
