In pre-poll crackdown, 53L unaccounted-for cash seized

Kolkata: In three cash haul ahead of the assembly elections, the static surveillance team (SST) has seized Rs 53 lakh unaccounted-for cash in Kolkata.
In the first case, Rs 20 lakh was seized from a vehicle in central Kolkata's Chatawala Gali on Tuesday and a businessman, Basant Kumar Soni (59) from Lake Town, was detained. As part of the EC's crackdown, the SST, led by Srikanta Mal, ASI of New Market PS, intercepted the car at a check naka and found a bag with the cash. I-T inspector Rajeev Ranjan and his team also reached the spot.
In the second incident, an SST and police seized Rs 17 lakh from two men, Fazlur Rahaman (49) and Vivek Ojha (28), travelling by a car, stopped at another check naka on Tuesday morning. The SST comprised ASI Pravash Chandra Bodhuk, along with a team from Burtolla PS, led by SI A K Sarkar and CAPF.
In the third haul, police detained Singur's Dinesh Ghosh (25) with Rs 16.4 lakh at the M G Road-Chitpore crossing.
