• Believe it or not: Deer wants a bite of dosa at this IIT campus
    Times of India | 8 April 2026
  • Welcome to hostel life at IIT Madras — where your unexpected roommate might not steal your Maggi, but could absolutely walk in and ask for a dosa. A now-viral video of a deer casually strolling into a student’s room is back doing the rounds, and honestly, this is peak campus energy: chaotic, wholesome, and slightly unbelievable.

    Campus wildlife gets too literal

The clips show a deer walking straight into a hostel room, however this isn’t unusual. IIT Madras is built on a forest zone within Guindy National Park, so deer and blackbuck roam freely. The campus also has a strict no power vehicles rule with speed limit of 20 km/h to protect the animals. In this case, the students had stepped out for an on-campus event while their dosa was being made. The deer showed up, tried its luck begging for food… but feeding is not allowed, so it left empty-hoofed.

‘Even the deer cracked IIT,’ say netizens

Social media has rediscovered the videos and is once again collectively spiralling. “Bro has better campus life than us,” one comment read. While another user said: “Even the deer cracked IIT.” The clip comes from student and Instagrammer @aryan_kala_, who has been sharing snippets of campus life that continue to catch the internet’s attention. Meanwhile, students are unfazed. Deer wandering into hostels, hanging around common areas, or approaching people for snacks is normal here. IIT Madras students are out here denying dosa to extremely persistent, very cute freeloaders.
