Kolkata: IndiGo airline has filed an FIR against the supervisor of the catering firm, Abdul Latif, who forgot to apply the hand brake when he alighted from the vehicle on Tuesday night, leading to it rolling off and hitting the right engine exhaust of an A-320 aircraft parked on Bay 51 at Kolkata airport.
Sources said preliminary probe by the airport operator and the airline indicated that the accident occurred due to an error on the part of the supervisor who was overseeing catering service on four flights.
"The Oberoi Flight Services supervisor had deviated from the SOP by not applying the hand brake when getting off the vehicle. The SUV was in neutral and rolled down to hit the engine exhaust. Thankfully, the slope is gentle, and hence, did not cause major damage," said an official. Inspection carried out on the aircraft revealed that the damage was minor, with airline officials confident that the aircraft would become airworthy latest by Thursday.
Immediately after the accident that happened at 9.25 pm, the catering supervisor underwent a breathalyser test and was cleared.
