Kolkata: The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police nabbed a 17-year-old from Bihar on Wednesday, seizing a cache of at least five finished firearms, 13 unfinished ones, and 40 rounds of ammunition. The operation took place near a public utility on Babughat bus stand on Strand Road.
Acting on information regarding the movement of illegal arms, an STF team led by SI Bikash Minj laid a trap on the eastern pavement of Strand Road. Around 12.15 pm, the team intercepted the Nalanda resident. A search revealed the alarming haul of weaponry in his possession. The seizure included three full country-made single-shot firearms, two 7 mm semi-automatic pistols, 13 parts of semi-finished weapons, four magazines, 18 rounds of 8 mm cartridges and 22 rounds of 7.65 mm cartridges.
The accused failed to provide any legal documentation or satisfactory explanation, and was detained.
"The recovery of the guns and ammunition suggests these were intended for a specific criminal consignment within the city," an officer said.
