Kolkata: A special bench of appellate tribunal directed the EC to reinstate the name of the maternal grandson of artist Nandalal Bose, Suprabuddha Sen, 88, and his wife, 82, in the electoral rolls, following the SC order. A senior EC official said, "The names of the family members of Nandalal Bose have been cleared."
The Supreme Court on Monday requested the tribunal to hear his appeal challenging the deletion of his name from the roll by April 9. Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, representing the state govt, flagged the deletion of his name from the electoral roll post adjudication. An interlocutory application (IA) was also filed requesting urgent hearing by the tribunal. "We would not have any illustrations in the Constitution if not for his grandfather," Menaka told the bench.
Sen said, "I don't know why it was deleted. Now, I hear that they have reinstated the names. It may be because I am Nandalal Bose's grandson and due to media attention. I feel bad about lakhs of others whose names were deleted." tnn
