  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced a set of “six guarantees” for West Bengal, promising a shift towards an accountable administration and stricter enforcement of law if the BJP comes to power in the state.

Addressing a public rally in Medinipur, Modi said the proposed measures aim to rebuild public trust in governance and ensure that the administration remains answerable to citizens. He also promised the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.

The Prime Minister said a BJP government would work to restore confidence in the rule of law and ensure transparency in administration. He alleged that cases of corruption and crimes against women under the current TMC regime would be revisited and acted upon.

He also asserted that those involved in wrongdoing would face legal consequences, regardless of their position, and claimed that political protection for offenders would end.

Modi emphasised the need for coordination between the Centre and the state, stating that West Bengal would benefit if both governments worked in tandem. He pitched for a “double-engine” government, saying it would accelerate development and help make the state self-reliant, particularly in fisheries and seafood sectors.

PM Modi stressed that Bengal’s interest lies when both the Centre and the state work together towards development. He highlighted that the “double engine” government in West Bengal would work for making the state grow in various sectors.

“Bengal’s best interest does not lie in animosity towards the Prime Minister; rather, the people stand to gain the most if both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister work together. That is precisely why a double-engine government is absolutely essential for Bengal,” he said.

Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
