Ranaghat (Nadia): A 68-year-old man died on Thursday after falling ill while standing in line at the SDO office in Ranaghat, waiting to file an appeal for an SIR tribunal hearing.
Jibankrishna Biswas, a resident of Nadia's Bagula, had gone to the tribunal after his and one of his daughter's names were deleted from the voters' list, though other family members were included.
His family claimed the stress and anxiety over the issue had badly affected his health.
On Thursday morning, Biswas travelled from Bagula to Ranaghat carrying the required documents. While waiting in line at the SDO office, he suddenly collapsed. He was taken to Ranaghat Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
After the incident, TMC staged a demonstration and blamed BJP-led Centre for Biswas' death. His daughter Champa said, "Politics took away my father's life."
