  • Kolkata: Undergraduate students pursuing three-year multidisciplinary courses may receive a certificate, titled ‘Graduation with Two Cores and One Minor'.

A committee, formed by Calcutta University, on Thursday determined the names of the four certificates to be awarded to students exiting at the end of first, second, third and fourth year. The proposal will be placed before the syndicate, the highest decision-making body at the university, for final approval.

The university formed the committee after facing an issue with the three-year multidisciplinary courses (MDC) as this name was not recognised under NEP 2020. The committee was tasked to come up with a new name for the certificate to be awarded at the end of the three-year course as the earlier name—MDC—could create difficulties for CU students pursuing higher studies with such a certificate.

Students completing the four-year degree programme will receive a certificate with the name, ‘Four-Year BA/BSc/BCom Honours', and those qualifying for research degree ‘Four-Year BA/BSc/BCom Honours with Research'.

The committee decided that students exiting after one year will receive a certificate, titled ‘One-Year Certificate Course', mentioning the name of the subject. Those exiting after two years will receive a diploma, titled ‘Two-Year Diploma Course', mentioning the subject name.

A member of the committee said, "These are the proposals that will be tabled during the next Syndicate meeting for discussion, after which a final decision will be taken."
