Trinamul Congress demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged receipt of Rs 1,000 crore by Humayun Kabir to buy Muslim votes.
The matter came to head following the release of a clip on social media. Mr Kabir is seen talking to a person that he has received Rs 300 crore to buy Muslim votes. Mr Kabir was seen sitting in front of money kept in packets. He said he had received Rs 300 crore. The Muslim people are simple and can be easily hoodwinked. Eighty out of one hundred Muslims are with me. Mr Kabir said the Bihar way of buying voters will be followed here in Bengal. He said he had contacts with Suvendu Adhikari, but it was not be followed in the open.
Trinamul Congress leaders Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas and Kunal Ghosh addressed the press on the matter.
Mr Ghosh said as Mr Kabir had taken the name of some officers in the PMO, a thorough investigation needed to be conducted to find out the names of the officers who were pulling the string from behind. As huge money is involved the ED and other agencies should conduct the investigation. “Why is the ED sitting quiet?,” Mr Ghosh said.
Mr Kabir also said why he is interested in setting up a mosque. “I have nothing to do with Babar, a mosque should be set up using his name to win the sentiments of the Muslims.”
Mr Hakim said it is unfortunate how the Muslim religious sentiments are being used. “He is trying to sell the respect of the Muslims to the BJP. On one hand, lakhs of Muslim names have been deleted in SIR in Murshidabad and now the BJP through their B and C-teams are trying to divide the Muslim community to buy the Muslims.”
Mr Hakim said the AIMM has been used to woo the Muslims. “It is a shame on you. Tell in the open that you are a BJP B team. I am a Muslim and have respect for all religions. But I will not spare those who are trying to sell the Muslim religious sentiments.”
Minister Aroop Biswas said: “Whatever money the BJP spends, the people in Bengal will vote for Trinamul Congress. The people in Bengal knows the dirty religious politics of the BJP and will vote against them,” he said.
