• Eastern Railway launches month-long ‘Swachhata’ extravaganza

  • The Eastern Railway has launched a month-long Swachhata Awareness Campaign from 15 April to 14 May. The mega-drive is to span across railway colonies, railway schools, railway offices, railway hospitals and health units, important railway stations, and railway tracks across several key locations.

    In the Asansol Division, the drive will cover Durgapur, Andal, Raniganj, Asansol, Madhupur, and Jasidih. Within the Howrah Division, activities will be held at Howrah, Seoraphuli, Bandel, Barddhaman, Katwa, Rampurhat, Bolpur Shantiniketan, and Azimganj. The Sealdah Division will see participation from Sealdah, Dum Dum Junction, Barasat, Barrackpore, Naihati, Dakshineswar, Park Circus, Komagata Maru Budge Budge, and Ballygunge. Furthermore, the Malda Division will include Malda Town, Sahibganj, and Bhagalpur, while the Liluah area will focus on Liluah and Belur.

    Highlighting the importance of this mission, Milind Deouskar stated: “Our objective is to integrate cleanliness into the very fabric of the passenger experience, ensuring that every traveller feels a sense of pride and comfort while journeying with Eastern Railway during this festive season.”

    The programme is to be carried out by the Public Relations Department of Eastern Railway alongside the environment and housekeeping management (EnHM) departments from all divisions and the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The awareness drive will be concentrated in high-footfall areas using public address systems, posters, and interpersonal communication for maximum outreach. To engage the public effectively, the campaign will feature a variety of creative activities including slogan writing, painting and poster making, cartoon making, nukkad natak or street plays, door-to-door awareness campaigns, passenger awareness drives at stations with a special emphasis placed on involving the energy of youth and school children.
