Calling for a consolidation of “Rashtrawadi Muslims” and “Sanatani Hindus,” Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday intensified the party’s campaign in North Bengal, pitching for a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP.
Addressing an election rally in Rajganj after a road show in support of party candidates Dinesh Sarkar (Rajganj) and Shikha Chatterjee (Dabgram-Fulbari), Adhikari urged voters to back the BJP to ensure victory in “177-plus seats” and enable the formation of a BJP government in the state.
Highlighting key promises from the party’s recently released manifesto, he said women would receive Rs 3,000 per month directly in their bank accounts, while female students and women in north Bengal would be allowed to travel free on state buses. He also assured that migrant workers would be brought back to the state.
On employment, Adhikari claimed that around six lakh posts are lying vacant in West Bengal and promised that these would be filled within six months if the BJP comes to power. Stressing development in north Bengal, he said that, apart from an AIIMS, an IIT and two more central educational institutions would be set up in the region.
Taking a strong stand on infiltration, he said a BJP government would implement a “3D policy”—Detect, Detain and Deport.
Referring to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Adhikari criticised the Trinamul Congress, alleging that the removal of “ghost voters” has unsettled the ruling party.
