Kolkata: Trinamool's Nandigram candidate Pabitra Kar has moved Calcutta HC to quash an FIR registered against him on Thursday for alleged assault, intimidation and looting in East Midnapore's Krishnanagar area — the first FIR against any candidate since the model code came into effect.
The complaint was lodged by local resident Buddhadeb Giri, who alleged that Kar and others assaulted him near a Vishnu temple on April 6. In his petition, Kar claimed the charges were false and the non-bailable sections were invoked solely to prevent him from contesting polls. No arrests have been made. Kar could not be contacted at the time of filing the report.
