  • Kolkata: The city remained warm and humid even as the maximum temperature crawled up to 33.6°C on Saturday. It could rise further and touch 35°C on Sunday, said the Met office.

With no system in the region, the mercury will gradually climb and could hover around 35°C-36°C for the next one week. The minimum temperature clocked 23.6°C in Kolkata on Saturday.

"It will remain largely dry and warm across south Bengal over the next seven days. Chances of rain or thunderstorms are low. A few areas may receive localised thundershowers, but they are likely to be mild and few. The warm spell could be broken after a week, but there are yet no specific indications," said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay.

The season's first scorching spell was broken by multiple thunderstorms and rain in Kolkata between April 5 and 9. They brought the mercury down by several notches after a warm spell that saw the mercury shoot up to 36.1°C last Saturday.
